Bien It should be recalled here that the two distinct photo modules integrated in the iPhone 7 Plus have sensors of the same definition associated with lenses with different focal lengths (to avoid the degradation inherent in the use of a digital zoom), the iPhone 7 itself is a dead end in this technology.

Comparé to the two previous generations, the iPhone 7 evolves very little in its design. We find a solid aluminum construction while the curves and the contained size of the whole allow a good grip.
Comme still at Apple, we should forget any idea of a removable battery or microSD port to expand storage space. However, the apple company has awarded us the IP67 waterproof certification, i.e. the resistance to immersion in a liquid for 30 minutes maximum and up to 1 m deep.
iPhone 7 has an IPS LCD screen with a diagonal of 4.7 inches (≈11.9 cm) for a definition of 1,334 x 750 px, a display fineness of 326 dpi. Although various high-end devices do better on this last point, the iPhone 7's screen offers an exemplary level of readability. Among the laboratory measurements carried out by our colleagues on the website Les Numériques, we will retain the accuracy of color rendering (average delta E at 1.4), as well as color temperature (6,897 K on average).
Alors that most Android smartphones have a physical shortcut in order to quickly launch the photo application, Apple has chosen a touch shortcut accessible from the terminal's unlocking screen. The operation is nevertheless quick and the photo module of the iPhone 7 is always ready to be unlocked.
Comme on many smartphones, the volume buttons on iPhone 7 can be used as a trigger. Since they are located on the left side of the device when held vertically, they can be accessed with the thumb of the left hand or the index finger of the right hand, depending on the direction in which the smartphone is held when it is positioned horizontally.
Contrairement to its main competitors, and in keeping with Apple's tradition, the iPhone 7 goes against the trend set by the last two generations of high-end Android smartphones: no control over shooting settings is offered.
Seuls the classic flash and self-timer controls, some filters, as well as HDR and Live Photo modes are accessible from the main shooting interface. While it's nice to have a simple and clear interface, it's a shame to be forced to do so.
Bien that Apple offers a well-thought-out retouching interface with various filters and retouching tools, we prefer those available in dedicated applications. Especially since siiOS 10a brought the welcome support for RAW files, you should know that it is still impossible to capture or edit photos in this format using the iPhone 7 Plus native applications. You must use a third-party application, such as Lightroom Mobile, to take photos in DNG format and take advantage of their flexibility during the editing phase.

L As a native application for Apple smartphones that does not offer manual settings, we tested the terminal's photographic capabilities under lighting conditions simulating daylight (250 lux illuminance and 6,500 K color temperature) and in low-light conditions (3 lux illuminance and 3,200 K color temperature).
Si the 28mm module of the iPhone 7 does not rank at the top of the 2016 smartphone accuracy rankings, but it does deliver a good level of detail in bright light conditions. We appreciate the fact that the image processing is not very pronounced, but we deplore the presence of digital noise from the lowest sensitivities. Concerning the colorimetry, we note a correct retranscription of the colors, in spite of a white balance a little too hot.
La The small size of the sensor of the photo module of the iPhone 7 unfortunately does not allow a miracle in low light situations: at ISO 1000, the smoothing of the image remains minimal but digital noise is very present. We also note a magenta drift on the whole image.
In controlled shooting situations as proposed in our test scene, the use of the HDR mode does not reserve any surprise. When the lighting is optimal, the activation of the HDR mode allows to reduce the contrast and to recover details in certain areas of the image. The effect of this mode, however, is more discreet in low-light situations.
Si it is designed to be simple and uncluttered, the iPhone 7 shooting interface limits the user experience to the most elementary basics of photography. Budding photographers will find the automatic features reassuring, while experienced users will most likely feel frustrated by the lack of any settings. Once again, we're a far cry from the disengageable modes offered by all high-end Android smartphones on the market. Note, however, that the iPhone 7 is at the top of the 2016 photophone basket in terms of focus speed and overall responsiveness.
C has been a constant for a few generations of Apple smartphones and the latest Apple devices are no exception: in white balance, the iPhone 7 often offers images with warm tones - if the rendering lacks neutrality, it can also be seen as a trademark.
Conformément In our lab tests, the photo module doesn't really seem to stand out from the competition because it transcribes the finest details, while photos captured in low-light conditions are marked by a strong presence of electronic noise. The iPhone 7 does, however, offer relatively good dynamics and discreet software enhancement - even when HDR mode is enabled.
iPhone 7 offers to record videos in 2160p 30 fps, 1080p 60/30 fps and 720p 30 fps. A slow mode allows recording in 1080p up to 120 fps and 720p up to 240 fps. When capturing videos, the Apple device takes advantage of the optical stabilization integrated into the photo module.
Fidèle to Apple's streamlined shooting interfaces, the iPhone 7's video mode is extremely bare in settings.
Comme most of its high-end competitors, the iPhone 7 doesn't really stand out in video. The transcription of details and colorimetric rendering are thus correct in Full HD, while the switch to 4K allows a gain in stitching. As for the stabilization system, it fulfills its role without being terribly efficient.
An We were offered a half-tone report during our test of the iPhone 7 Plus, a large format version of the new Apple devices: the added value provided by the presence of a double photo module with a 56 mm focal length is real, but not remarkable. Although the iPhone 7 is devoid of this major commercial argument, it nevertheless retains most of the real photographic arguments of this 2016 vintage, thanks to its main photo module.
Ce last is not perfect, but rivals in quality with those of many high-end smartphones. Although we deplore a color management that lacks a little accuracy, as well as a retranscription of details that could be improved (especially in low light situations), we particularly appreciate the quality screen and the dynamics offered by the sensor. The new iPhone is therefore evolving - its photo module is equipped with an optical stabilization system - while remaining in line with its predecessors.
Si we recommend this smartphone only to photography enthusiasts willing to pay the price to rediscover the ergonomics of Apple terminals, their simple and efficient shooting interface, as well as their warm images. Indeed, apple smartphones, evolving alone in a characteristic ecosystem, constitute a unique offer.
