The Mi Mix 3 should have replaced my old Sony Xperia XA1 Ultra, the Mi Mix 3 has a 6.4 inch display and the Sony only a 6 inch display.

Actually you should think that the Mi mix 3 beats the old Sony phone by worlds, at least I thought that the reviews of the great display and the reviews here were very positive!
Well, after all possible tests only the HDR capability remains, which puts the mi mix display above the outdated Sony display!

The size was my first problem, I wanted a phone with a bigger display and best of all without borders, that I could see as much as possible of the movies or series, and there was the first surprise!
The Mi Mix 3 is not as wide as the XA1 Ultra, which means that you can only watch a movie in full screen if it is either 21:9 format or you zoom the picture which leads to cutting off the top and bottom of the picture, so you have a bigger picture lengthwise than on the Sony phone but you are missing a good part of the picture on the top and bottom!
If you leave the picture in the original size you have black bars on the left and on the right and then the picture is smaller in the length as well as in the width than on the supposedly smaller Sony display!

Then came the quality test, both mobile phones played the same material on YouTube and the next surprise was in the air, the Sony showed much finer details, the mi mix 3 has a very soft picture which washes away the details, pixel small insects or scales of a snake or single branches which are precisely shown on the Sony display are drawn very soft on the mi mix or are missing completely or The colours of the Sony display are not realistic, the green is very dominant which helps forests, grasses etc. The colours of the Sony display are not realistic, the green is very dominant which helps to show forests, grasses etc. but compared to the mi mix you can see that the Sony display does not have as realistic colours as the mi mix 3, here colours are shown very realistic which sometimes leads to very matt pictures, you expect juicy colours but you will be disappointed with a more realistic matt colour mix, this is of course a matter of taste, some like it a bit stronger, some more subdued, but for me the mi mix is a bit too reserved and the pictures do not look as spectacular as on the colourful Sony display!
What you notice in any case is the HDR ability of the mi mix 3, while the Sony display is dropping in dark areas the gradations and details are still visible on the mi mix 3, so here because of the HDR ability I give you a plus for the mi mix 3!

That the mi mix 3 can only display Netflix and Amazon Prime in 480p was no problem for me at first because I thought that because of the great display it wouldn’t be that noticeable, but unfortunately it’s also extremely annoying that the artifact formation totally stalls the movie fun, in dark or fast scenes the picture is very bad which is simply unacceptable in the long run!

For the above mentioned reasons the phone is not worth the money for me, I wanted a bigger display with better picture, in the end I have to stay with my old Sony XA1 because it is better in both areas!

The rest of the Mi mix 3 should be ok but to be honest I didn’t care about it because after the display test I packed the device again and sent it back!

Too bad, I would have been looking forward to a new Smartphone but as the Smartphones have developed in the last years this narrow form factor will become more and more popular and cut off picture edges on top and bottom or on the sides and narrow displays in general will become standard!

All in all I am very satisfied with the phone and would buy it again. If you are faced with the decision between Mix 2s and Mix 3, I would recommend the 3s. If you already own a Mix2s, you have to decide if it is worth it. Because the 2s is also already a great mobile phone.

+ battery: That was my biggest problem child, but completely unfounded. The mobile phone lasts the whole day and if you are in flight mode at night you can use it the next day (usage: check whatsapp every hour, watch the news in the morning, about 2-3 hours of music via Bluetooth, and a movie/series)
+ Display: Just impressive, huge and without notch. Watching videos has never been so much fun!
+ Performance: Absolutely fast
+ Front camera: Portraits get even better, even if that was not a reason to buy. Which is great: It is mostly hidden. Now I have no paranoia, but you never know… 🙂
+ Compared to the Mix 2s, where the camera is located in the lower right corner, the new arrangement is of course much more comfortable for video calls.
+ Price/Performance: Typical Xiaomi unbeatable! I’ve looked at many smartphones from other manufacturers, but the Mix series is simply something special at a good price

– Camera: I see only marginal to no improvement compared to the Mi Mix 2s. But in total a decent camera. br>br>- Weight: Although well balanced, the phone is heavy and thick. On the one hand I like it, because it is very valuable, on the other hand it is a bit bulky, especially in the trouser pocket.

– The included cover is indeed a waste of resources. Does not fit properly and creaks. In the beginning I thought, this is the disadvantage of the slider… It almost was a reason for sending it back… But: check out my other reviews, I found one here at Amazon that is worlds better. The internal speaker is even worse than Mix 2s. That is simply a pity considering the size of the mobile phone.

In total I’m very satisfied, if something should change, I’ll give an update here. Was the review helpful? Then I would be happy if you could give me some feedback here.

BRI>BRI>Short info about the battery problem described in another review: In the beginning it was also the case that the battery only lasted 10-12 hours. A look at the battery monitor showed that an app in the background kept the phone constantly awake. So Google Services clears the cache and data and restarts the phone. Since then, the phone has lasted up to two days.

—-Supplement 05.05.19:—-
HD is possible on youtube, but unfortunately not on Amazon Video and Netflix. I hope that this will be possible via an update (like Pocophone). The Mi 9 can also do that already.

— Update after one year —
Still runs like on the first day. Battery life without any (noticeable) loss. Also the slider works perfectly. If it stays like this, the phone will accompany me for a long time. Can only recommend it.

With the Mi Mix 3 you get a very good Smartphone, which can easily keep up with the flagships of other manufacturers like Apple, for a great price.

But also here some negative little things have crept in.

– Vibration alarms are much too weak
– the speaker is quite quiet

The two points combined unfortunately cause me to miss calls from time to time. (I have to say that I work in a noisy environment and my hearing is not the best)

– The slider
– The mechanism has a great finish, that’s beyond question.
The only problem is when you come in contact with metal dust (in my case e.g. job-related).
Since the mechanism works with magnets, I have metal dust and splinters stuck to the display every day. So far there are no scratches (I don’t have a foil on it!), but I’m afraid that sooner or later some of the dust will get into the mechanism.

But now to the positive side

I don’t really know where to start, the Mi Mix 3 really doesn’t need to hide behind 1600€ competition.

I’ve had many different smartphones from different manufacturers lately, among others: Huawei p20 pro, iPhone xs max, Huawei Mate 20 pro, Samsung Note 9, and more, but I think you can see my tendency to go for flagship phones

I must say, the best experience I have had is actually with the iPhone and the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3.

I’ll try to keep it short from now on:

– the battery lasts about 1,5-2 days with intensive use
-Snapdragon 845 Octacore processor (speaks for itself I think)

-the display has a nice high resolution (there are displays with higher resolution, but this one doesn’t need to hide)

– NO NOTE, the fullscreen display looks just great, ideal for playing games as well as for videos 😉 The dual front camera has a real flash (and not the usual on-screen flash) and takes really impressive pictures 😉 The main camera on the back is also a dual camera, which also takes very good pictures.
But if you want/must have the very best smartphone camera on the market, you are wrong here.

-My opinion is that this device is the best you can wish for in its price range, but it also beats many competing models in much higher price ranges.

-These were my experiences and impressions so far, I hope I could help one or the other to decide.

I have my Mi Mix 3 since one month now.
(By contract extension, therefore no verified purchase, but pictures attached)
Before I had the Huawei P9 with which I was also very satisfied but because of the age of 2,5 years I had to get something new.

The Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 comes in a very noble packaging and the content is very nice compared to the real expensive phones.

When you open the lid you can see the Mi Mix 3.
It has a 6.39 AMOLED display with 2340×1080 pixels. The colours on the display look very good and even watching video and playing some games is really fun.
The front camera is hidden behind the famous slider mechanism. I like the slider and it looks very stable. Because of the dual front camera with LED flash you can take really good pictures. The main camera on the back also shoots very good pictures and in my opinion it was not for nothing that dxomark rated it very good.

In the month since I got the phone I could test a lot. The battery lasts for 1-1,5 days even with heavy use and I really do a lot on the phone. With less use you can get through 2 days with one battery charge. With the quick charger (18W) it is fully charged again in about (estimated) 1,5h. The package also includes a wireless 10W charger, which takes about 2.5h to charge. Xiaomi is also ahead of the competition here. A wireless charger is hardly included in the starter package.

Also included in the package is a case, which fits perfectly and is more than sufficient and an adapter USB-C to jack plug.
Software was installed by me (possibly by the network operator?) the Global Rom. Up to now there were no problems with apps or similar – everything works perfectly and smoothly here.

Scope of delivery in detail: Mi Mix 3, quick charger (18W), wireless charger (10W), mobile phone case, adapter USB-C&lt,&gt, jack

I am very enthusiastic about the mobile phone and would buy it again immediately. A worthy successor for my P9.
If it lasts again 2,5 years I am very satisfied.
From me there are 5 of 5 stars. Should something change there is an update 🙂

Cool Guy

I have owned the Mi Mix 3 for about three quarters of a year now and have noticed that after about half a year the system slowly gives up with the display pull down for the front camera. Meanwhile very light bumps or a simple hand in your pocket are enough to make the display go down. And this although I hardly ever use the camera and therefore don’t put a lot of strain on the mechanism. Someone who uses the front camera a lot will probably not have a halfway working mechanism for 2 months.
I don’t even think we need to talk about the cable(s), after about 2 months it was broken, since then I can’t shut down the display while loading it, says the manufacturer, that’s no problem for me as you read above, but I almost never use it anyway. Now after a good three quarters of a year it is slowly becoming a problem for me, because it is now enough to put the phone at an angle so that the slightly lowered display pushes the cable out so far that it doesn’t charge anymore.

So far everything sounds very much like a one star rating, therefore to the positive things, except for the battery every technology works as it should and also the fingerprint sensor which seems to make problems with some other manufacturers works like on the first day. A cover is of course obligatory for this smartphone, here my initial doubt that it could fall off quickly, because it can’t go over the lower corners, was not confirmed. Even after this time it hasn’t fallen off once.
Music should be listened to over headphones, as most other legends do, rather than over the loudspeaker of the device, even if it’s sufficient for an emergency. But it can’t do more than that.

It’s a very good device and at first sight it looks noble and quite solid. Also the Slider does what it should do when you want to use it. All applications (bluetooth, gps, mobile data wlan, fingerprint …) work very well. The display is very bright (even in direct sunlight) and the colours are very contrasty. The sound of the loudspeaker is solid and gets loud enough. the microphone gives a good result for my conditions, so that video recordings with the outstanding camera become very good. The photo quality has surprised me personally positively. (My old Sony Z3 ,is nothing against it). Compared to the one plus 6T, both cameras work very well. In my opinion, both can keep up with even the top class under normal conditions. Borrowing would not notice any difference in quality on a mobile phone anyway. I got along with MIui quite quickly and the settings are already well done. Games can be played on the ding as soft as butter and with bombastic graphics. Advertising in the operating system I did not notice any.
So why did I decide against the mobile phone?
The main reason was the slider. It’s ok, but because the display and the body are separated, both halves can be moved a little bit in closed state and a little bit more in open state. At the upper end the display can be pressed in a little bit,(hardly a millimeter, and hardly disturbing).
Both I could have coped with. I was afraid of the uncertainty about durability and water protection, since moisture or fine dust can penetrate on all sides. What would happen in case of a fall from the hand ?

Since I am currently a student looking for a reasonable, durable mobile phone without risks, I decided against it.

I was looking for a cheap smartphone with wireless charging, good camera and NFC. With the Mi Mix 3 I hit the bull’s eye.
The smartphone feels valuable and looks quite impressive with its huge display. It’s a tick bigger/heavier than I’d like it to be, but everything is still in the frame.
The camera takes great pictures (as I hoped), especially if you install the GCam afterwards.
The battery has always gotten me through the day well, so it’s enough.
Since I personally didn’t get really warm with the MIUI, I installed the Nova-Launcher (which works without any problems). What’s a little bit strange: Xiaomi has its own alternatives for the standard Google tools (clock, photos …) and the EU version contains the Xiaomi AND the Google version, neither of them can be uninstalled easily. Especially annoying (and that’s what the star deduction is for): The Google alarm clock is often killed by Xiaomi’s energy saving settings so that it doesn’t ring at the desired time. This can be fixed by disabling energy saving for the alarm clock app, but that’s really unacceptable by default.

Mechanically, the Mi Mix 3 slider is really fun to use and has already caused quite a few wows. Unfortunately, it’s also a lint magnet, so that you often have to clean up a bit after sliding. After 2 months of use, the slider now rattles a little bit, but that hasn’t had any negative effects so far.
I have the blue version of the smartphone and was (positively) surprised: On the photos, the blue looks much brighter, in reality it looks almost black at first sight.

All in all, I can recommend the Mi Mix 3 with a clear conscience, especially in its price range.

I had the Mi Mix 2 and was already enthusiastic about how well processed and how powerful it was.

Mi Mix 3 is a real hit.
– no notch (for me personally super)
– almost borderless display
– super front camera (much better than the previous one)
– super main camera (much better than the previous one)
– slider :
seems to me to be just right from the feel of it
Reacts well with a little pressure on the display when you pull it down. br>Nothing rattles – nothing wobbles.br>>br>The device is, like its predecessor, incredibly well made.br>>br>Adjustment possibilities as usual are very, very good.br>MIUI is a lot of fun for me personally.br>The fact that you can change designs without additional launcher is also great. The standard icons and status bars etc. bore me and I can always download new themes.

The device is not cluttered with any apps.
The file explorer is not chaotic because of that.

Performance is great so far.
The device is fast and doesn’t get hot or anything like that.
I really do a lot on the device and the battery does a good job.
2 days I pack well despite constant use.
Br> Camera is really great and also the super slow motion is impressive Br> Br> Br> The big names have become unimportant for me. Br> Xiaomi shows how you can offer a top device for a decent price. Br> Apple, Samsung and co. can pack for me. Br> There is no reason why I should pay 1000euro for a Smartphone if it works for less than half as well.

Since already everything worth knowing can be read and looked up in countless tests, it’s only a very short time. Processing on a very high level. Slider does not disturb in the slightest, on the contrary, by the possibility of being able to select the function freely when pulling it down even very useful. A clattering while typing, which has been criticized in tests from time to time, I cannot confirm. Display excellent with AMOLED typical real black and great colors, which aren’t exaggerated. The 3 highlights are: 1. display without notch 2. camera, very good photos and videos 3. workmanship and value due to the ceramic back and the pleasantly higher weight. Less good? Yes, the battery – lasts a day – could last longer – but is still ok. All in all a super price performance package – you get a top smartphone with charging pad and case included. And MIUI? Better and clearer than expected with some useful features like second profile and dual SIM. So why spend more on other smartphone brands? No idea.

Or t.

Change from a device of the fruit company and I am positively surprised.
The octa core is incredibly fast and overpowered, but that can never hurt.
Display is a dream, reflects strongly, but can be read very well from the side and the slider does what it should. Cameras surprised me positively (although the interaction of OLED and a new camera always surprises). Even in the front there is a flash, although weaker than in the back, but definitely sufficient. Low-light function is also quite good, in Pro mode you can even expose 32 sec. The adapted Android (MiUI) is also very nice and easy to use.
was delivered with a European charger and during the setup you could also switch directly to German. Only the battery life I couldn’t test properly yet, but that’s not so bad anyway, because you can simply put the device on the included inductive charger when not in use. So I always have (when I use it anyway) over 70% even without energy saving mode.

I have been using the phone for almost 1 year continuously now. In general I am very satisfied, if there are problems it’s mostly software problems.

First time for the better:

My biggest worry was the slider, it still runs like on the first day, never had problems, annoying is maybe the dust collecting under it but that’s actually not a problem either.

A great accessory is included, induction charger, case, AUX adapter. >>br>>The mobile phone is extremely robust, I like to drop my mobile phone so often on tiles, I thought immediately that was it but no after throwing it down at least 50 times not one jump. br>>>br>Now to the negative:
>>br>There are software bugs from time to time, for example my camera takes permanently bluish pictures, when I zoom to 1,1x everything is normal, clear software error. Also the autofocus feels slow for me, generally the whole camera app works slowly.

Since I hardly ever shoot selfies, I really wanted a smartphone without Notch and so I had to decide between a few models. The sliding mechanism is great and there is absolutely no danger of me accidentally triggering it. The hardware is on the highest current level (version with Snapdragon 845), the workmanship is very high quality and 4k 60fps shots are possible.
The Smartphone is a bit heavier than competitors and certainly a bit thicker, but I don’t mind that at all.

The biggest minus point out of the box is the MIUI-Launcher, which doesn’t provide an App Drawer, but simply distributes all apps to different desktops. If you install the Pocophone Launcher (POCO Launcher) from the Playstore, you will have a tidy screen again without losing any of the advantages of the otherwise well thought-out operating system.

I ordered the Smartphone as a replacement. For reference I use the iPhone XS MAX. First of all the accessories are very extensive. Wireless Charger, 3.5mm jack adapter and phone cover are included with the phone. Very good!

The phone feels valuable and the Android is not cluttered with apps. The pre-installed launcher is also good, but not too customizable. Camera and screen quality are good. Of course, the display is an eye-catcher and the sliding function is also well received. It seems to be stable and also holds well in the various positions. However, the sliding mechanism is very susceptible to dust.

If someone is looking for a good smartphone with that certain something and with great features, as well as extensive accessories, you should strike here.

Answer report comment December 20, 2020, 17:47

The phone was absolutely convincing with the specifications at the first go.
Performance top, features top, fingerprint sensor outstanding, screen first class!
The slider mechanism is stable and works without any problems.
The phone is comparatively thick and heavy due to the mechanism and it is not waterproof.
It doesn’t seem to be very durable, because in the meantime after a fall the display doesn’t work anymore without it even looking broken or damaged or the phone showing any other damage. This may be due to the fact that the display hangs on the sliding mechanism and is not very stable itself. Pity.
Very good mobile phone at a reasonable price. Sliding mechanism useless and unnecessary. The Galaxy series from Samsung is not available. Rather reach for the S10.

Bought as used, acceptable via ZOXS and Amazon. Technique and evaluation of the Mi Mix3 are described sufficiently and aptly in the other reviews. Super condition, only the mobile phone case was missing, otherwise original. Fast delivery. One star print for the EU ROM recorded via TWRP. I personally find this very interesting and good, but I am sure that the normal user will be overwhelmed by the first update. Alone the lack of most Google services is unusual for many people, something like this is a must in the product description! For me: Super Smartphone, great condition, great price. Unfortunately you can not give half stars, would be a 4.5.

I have been looking forward to the Smartphone very much, because I have heard a lot of good things. When I unpacked it and held it in my hand for the first time, I was very impressed. During the setup, I unfortunately noticed that something was wrong when I pressed the left half of the display. The device just rattles and wobbles along even the slightest touch. Of course, this doesn’t show the quality the device has at first sight.
I did some research and found out that some have this problem and some have it after a few weeks of use.

Even if the smartphone’s performance technology is top notch, it just doesn’t work. Xiaomi Mal should have worked a little longer on the slider mechanism and tested it.

BI’m really disappointed.

Mobile phone is for my child (15J). This one is absolutely satisfied. Photos, display are probably super. Apple was too expensive for me – basically nothing against Apple, but for students…? This mobile phone can do everything a mobile phone has to do, looks good and is also suitable for posing. Child is happy, mom is happy because child is happy and dad is happy because he didn’t have to spend sooooo much money.

The best mobile phone I had at the moment. All my friends told me about Xiaomi and I was curious. I just couldn’t imagine to get such a good mobile phone for such a small price. See, I think it is better than a samsung, huawei or Apple. Even my fiancée wants the phone because it is better than her s9. In any case, super fast horny display and it makes great photos, even in the dark. I only buy Xiaomi phones ??

In itself very good smartphone but with weak points. The screen or back breaks very easily and because it is very heavy and also very slippery, it can easily fall out of your hand. It also has a Google key on the left side and unfortunately this cannot be deactivated or assigned differently. Which is really annoying because every time the screen unlocks and Google opens up, and of course it takes any commands or stops the music. But apart from that the phone performs very well. I cannot confirm the long battery life advertised.
